Home Server Power Pack 3 beta

1 comment July 20th, 2009

Microsoft is looking for pioneers to test Windows Home Server Power
Pack 3 beta
, which is built around Windows 7.

People with Windows 7 on a home computer or currently running Windows Home
Server can sign up here on Microsoft's site.

Power Pack 3 expands the ability to create
image like backups also on Windows 7 computers as well as on XP SP2 and
Vista.

Microsoft is also proposing PP3 as a storage and backup solution for netbooks
and other small, low power computers, which can use the Home Server as a
additional storage. The supported  resolution now is 1024×600 which is just
what the NetBook users need.

Power Pack 3 also includes media file sharing. Windows Search 4 is baked into
PP3 for speedier search times, indexing times, and stability across all document
libraries on the network. Files encrypted with Encrypting File System (EFS) are
now supported with search.

The TV Archive option in Windows Media Center will now
record television to the home server running PP3 beta in smaller resolutions
(320×240, 500 Kbps) for Windows Mobile devices and (640×480, 1500 Kbps) for the
Zune
. It appears As the video files are limited to WMV it is unlikely non Windows devices to take advantage of these futures.

Otakusoftware- 3D Desktop Organizer

Otakusoftware – 3D Desktop Organizer
3D desktop

I have never used a 3D organizer so I decided to try one!
My personal experience was that it does not save time and/or space, it is just a fancy gadget!

I recorded my installation and the video is being currently processed by youtube, hopefully by the time you read this it will be ready.

The 3D organizer that I tested was created by Otakusoft

There was one problem that I encountered and it is shown on the video, when I change the wallpaper on any side on the cube and then I rotate the cube, as soon as i go back to the side with the different wallpaper it disappears. So from that point on I lost interest!

More 3D Desktops

IF you wish to try it you can do so they offer a free trial. I don’t think that it is worth paying for it!

Windows 7 in the hands of Business Users by the End of the Month

No comments July 12th, 2009

The reports show: Business Users, that have bought Volume Licenses with Software Assurance, will get Windows 7 by the end of July.

This of course means that Windows 7 RTM copies may leak out way before October, 22, 2009
According to different sources Microsoft will have a lot of promotional discounts before the release on 22nd. This means that the huge 50% OFF may not be the last one, it is apparent that MS really wants to put Windows 7 into the hands of the users.
Microsoft as announced last week that they are still on truck with The Windows 7 RTM which should take place by the end of July.

The sales of Vista were relay poor and now MS is determined to fix that problem!

Sinofsky In Charge of Windows 7

No comments July 11th, 2009

Well done today, Steven Sinofsky, he is the new president of Windows and his responsibilities will be Windows 7. He has a lot expericen working with MS and we are only expecting good discipline and a lot of success.
Steven has been with MS for a long time and he is previously known avoiding the “Vista Disaster”.
He will be responsible for the Windows 7 Public release. For those who have followed Sinofsky, they know that he does not make random promises too soon. When he promises something, he is almost 100% sure that he will meet the customer expectations.
Having him in charge, the future Windows 7 users can be sure that deadlines will be met at the expected quality level.
This is the man for the job, apparently Ms is really betting a lot on the new Windows 7, they claim that they have listened to the customer, but it is not the customer who has requested Sinofsky. Appointing the best man for that position is clearly the desire of MS to finally satisfy the customer need at 100%.

Windows 7 the big pre order discount

No comments July 9th, 2009

“Be first. Save half.
Pre-order Windows 7 today. You’ll get it for about half off and be one of the first to get it. Hurry, quantities are limited.*”

This is the subtitle that Microsoft great you with, when you visit their Windows 7 page! There are some questions that still remain in our heads after reading this, for example how can we be sure that this is not going to be the actual price of the software after its release?!

As it is right now you can buy an Update for as little as 50$ which means: for fifty dollars you can go from Vista to Windows 7 Home Premium via the Update Option. However, the Windows XP and 2000 users will have to back up all their data and do a clean install, which by the way I recommend to all Vista users as well.

There is also a discount on Windows 7 Professional which is not offered as an Update.

For those who are interested in Windows 7 Premium there is a bad news because it does offer a pre-order but there is not a discount for it!
