Dragon Age Origins on Windows 7

Add a comment November 4th, 2009

I have installed Dragon Age Origins (Both; The Character Creator Demo and the full version of Dragon Age Origins) and they both work flawless. The installation went quick and the game loads up pretty fast (under 30 seconds after the first time). Unlike NFS Shift, DAO needs the user to set up the video setting, which is simply and easy to do at any stage of the game play. There are no problems with the game on Windows 7. If you have any issues with Dragon age on Windows 7 please comment on this blog explaining your problem.

    I’m using Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. Hardware – Intel E6750 2,66GHz, 3GB DDR3 RAM, GForce 8800 GTS 640Mb.

Have a problem with DA: game stops (I see the black screen, or game without unit models, or game without textures, or just notresponding screen). I activate task manager, than alt-tab on the game and it starts working again. This happens very often, so it’s impossible to play =\

Already tryed some forum advices (but for Win7 64bit) like disabling sound, setting CPU affinity, using WinXP compatibility mode. Nothing helped.
(also tested 7′s feature Windows XP Mode. It doesn’t suite, because virtual PC doens’t see the video adapter)

So looking forward for more advices!

Try to disable background processes, seems like you have a program that runs on the back ground and messes with the DA. Close/exit all messengers disconnect your network and disable your PC security, then try the game. If that doesn’t help look for other programs that you can stop. also try to lower or just alter your video settings with in the game! Good luck and let us know if you have solved ur problem!

Closing all non-vital for the system processes, disconnecting network, setting low game settings didn’t help. Possibly, DA began to stop not so often, it’s hard to compare.

Don’t know the reason for the problem, I tryed games with higher requirements (like Stalker CoP) on my system using the highest settings without any problem.

Update video card drivers or better yet install any new Windows 7 updates! May be a installation problem, consider reinstall!

i have the steam version of Dragon Age Origins Collector’s Edition. i registered the game and promo content and had no problems…until i installed windows 7 ultimate…now i get an error every time i try to load my game saying
“This saved game included Bioware premium content. To load this game, an owner of the following content must log in.
    Memory Band
    Collector’s Edition
    Warden’s Keep
    The Stone Prisoner”
Heres the thing, i am logged into my account (the only account i have for the game) in BOTH the Bioware site and the game itself. All promo content is installed but unavailable. I tried re-entering the redemption codes and it says that they have already been used. By all accounts i should have access to all this stuff but for some reason i do not. PLEASE HELP!!!! do i need to un-install and un-register and then re-install and re-register? what can i do to get access to the content that i paid $15 extra for????? any help would be appreciated!!!!

After installing win7 (home prem) and running DAO, the game no longer runs fullscreen, ie it squeezes itself into the middle of my widescreen screen. It’s not running in windows mode and its technically still ‘fullscreen’, but it’s not fullscreen widescreen. I get this problem with some other non-win7 compatible programs/games as well. Is there a way to work around this and get the whole game to fill the screen? Any help appreciated.

I am having the exact same problem, any solutions out there? It happens every 1 or 2 minates into game play. There must be a reason. I have all my drivers up to date, tried every configuration of lowering the graphic setting in the game, I even tried lowering my nvidia driver to a earlier series, as sugested on a diferent site, and nothing is working. Help?

Hi, just upgraded my OS from XP to Windows 7 32-bit. I’ve had my drive formatted before this so I’ll be needing to install Dragon Age Origins again. After reading some posts regarding problems in compatibility of DA to Windows 7, do you have any comments/suggestions before I proceed in installing the game? Thanks…

I have a new laptop. An ASUS Notebook G60Vx. It has an Intel Core 2 duo processor P7450 @ 2.13 Ghz 4.00 Gb RAM 64 bit operating system running Windows 7 home. When I try to install Dragon Age Orgins it will say” The current permissions are insufficient to write to the selected folder” What does that mean? I would love to finally be able to play a game on my new laptop with the new windows 7.
